Opeth visited the legendary BBC studios in Maida Vale, London/UK to record a couple of songs scheduled to be aired on BBC radio 1 sometime soon. The songs will also be included on the planned special release of "Ghost reveries". The songs recorded: "The grand conjuration", "When" and "Soldier of fortune" (Deep Purple cover).

November 2005

As reported on Blabbermouth our busdriver on the last North American tour was arrested in Tampa/S.t Petersburg, FL for "unlawful activity with a minor". Basically we're appalled by the fact that we'd employed this bastard and even more disgusted by his deeds and obviously we will be much more detailed in our background check for future employments. The driver introduced himself only as "Rod" and seemed like a nice guy, even though for us he was just another driver, and a bad one as well! He said he owned a trailer company and that he was a drummer, playing with Ted Nugent and several other bands in the 70´s. We got suspicious that he couldn't get into Canada (we had another driver there) due to some previous drug "misdemeanors". Myself and Peter met him and the girl in the elevator of the hotel where he introduced her as his niece. She seemed distant, asking us if we smoked pot. "Rod" told us he was driving her to Los Angeles. After the gig, he never returned to the bus and then we got the news that he'd been arrested. Luckily for us one of Nevermore's crew was able to drive us back to the hotel. The next day the FBI stopped our tour manager outside the bus with a warrant to search the bus for "Rod's" laptop and camera. We feel genuinely happy that he is caught and behind bars where we hope he will stay for a long time. As reported on Blabbermouth our busdriver on the last North American tour was arrested in Tampa/S.t Petersburg, FL for "unlawful activity with a minor".

Opeth will appear as special guest on Headbangers ball, MTV2 on the 5th of nov at 10PM ET!!!

Oktober 2005

Akercocke will have the middle slot when Opeth appear at The forum in London on the 30th of November.

It is with regret that the first couple of dates on the Opeth US tour will have to be postponed due to a delay in getting the bands work visas through, at this stage one can 100 % confirm that the Mesa and Los Angeles dates will not happen, we are working to save the San Francisco date and will almost certainly start the tour in Portland. We are working on rescheduling the postponed dates. More news soon!

OPETH will be holding an in-store signing at SCRAPE Records in Vancouver, Canada on Friday, October 14. Come down and meet the band, get pictures taken, and get your OPETH (and related) albums signed! There will be some freebies and giveaways too. Roadrunner records has set the release date for "Ghost reveries" on the 29th of August (Europe and world) + 30th of August for North America. The record will be released on regular Cd, double vinyl as well as a later limited edition hardback deluxe Cd!

A shorter edit version of "The grand conjuration" will see a single release in the near future. Included on the disc is the edit version as well as the full 10 minute + version and another edit of the "Ghost of perdition" track. A video for "The grand conjuration - edit" was also shot in Los Angeles/USA with director Bill Yukich.

See the video for "The Grand Conjuration" online!

Opeth recently returned home from the first ever Sounds of the underground North American tour where the band shared the stage with Lamb of God, Strapping young lad, Clutch, Gwar and more. During the first weeks of the tour Martin Lopez became seriously ill and had to fly back home to Sweden for treatment. He's currently under supervision and is doing well and we hope for a swift recovery and return to his natural habitat....behind the drums. Legendary basher Gene Hoglan (SYL, Dark angel, Death, Testament and more) filled in for Lopez during the SOTU tour for the last 16 gigs as well as participating in the video shoot for "The grand conjuration". A temporary replacement has been found in Bloodbath/Witchery/Nifelheim drummer Martin Axenrot who will take over Lopez duties until he's fully recovered.
Norwegian prog metallers Extol has been confirmed   as support for the upcoming September European tour. A 3rd band is likely to be added to the bill as well.

Another European tour will take place in November/December and will be more extensive than the imminent September tour.

September 2005

The official Opeth forum has been reopened!

Opeths "Ghost reveries" has entered charts around the world.

The members of Opeth sends their condoleances to the family and friends of the recently deceased Denis "Piggy" D'amour, guitarist of classic Canadian band Voivod. R.I.P! "As I was getting into real heavy music in the 80´s, Voivod was one of my absolute favourite bands and their "Dimension Hatröss" album was essential for the development of Opeth's music!" Mikael Åkerfeldt August 27, 2005.

Legendary BBC radio has invited Opeth for a recording session in December. This recording will then be aired on British radio in the near future. More details on this as it unfolds.

Mikael Åkerfeldt has recorded vocals for a track destined for the upcoming Roadrunner 25 years compilation Cd. The song "Roads" was written by Type O' Negative keyboardist Josh Silver. Mikael recorded the vocals while on the SOTU tour in Atlanta/Georgia with guitarist/now producer/engineer James Murphy. Mr. Murphy is currently working with the much talked about Death tribute Cd which will include appearances from Mikael Åkerfeldt ("Pull the plug") as well as Martin Lopez and Martin Mendez and Peter Lindgren.

OPETH fanatics in Vancouver, Canada will be able to satisfy their cravings when SCRAPE Records opens their doors on the night of Aug. 29, 2005 at midnight to celebrate the release of OPETH's new album "Ghost Reveries". Opeth has cancelled their Vienna/Austria Aerodromme festival appearance (May 27) due to the recording taking longer time than expected. We are very sorry for the fans who expected to see Opeth there, but we hope to return to Austria as soon as humanly possible!

The recording process is going well. One song is mixed and done, another one in the process of being mixed. Solos are being recorded as well as death screams. Some songtitles? "Ghost of perdition", "The baying of the hounds", "Isolation years" and "Harlequin forest" The record plan to be done by June 1.

Opeth are most likely to appear at Bergen/Norway´s Hole in the sky festival (August 24-27) as well as the semi legendary Summerbreeze (August 18-20) fest in Germany. We will confirm this as soon as it´s....confirmed!

May 2005

Per Wiberg has now officially joined Opeth as a permanent member of the band. As most of you know he's been touring with Opeth since their "Damnation" record. Spiritual beggars fans should not despair as he will continue playing and recording with them.

The band is currently hard at work in Fascination street studios. 9 titles have been recorded and at this moment Hammond organs and Mellotrons are being put down to tape. The recording is being supervised and engineered by Jens Bogren and produced by the band. Some song titles have been confirmed and will be posted here soon.

Several North American journalists will visit the studio in mid May for interviews and exclusive listening sessions.

January 2005

These are troubled times...today we got the confirmation that Mieszko Talarczyk, vocalist and guitarist of Nasum has been confirmed dead as a victim in the Tsunami wave that hit Thailand some time ago. Although we didn't know him that well we actually had the pleasure to work with him once as he engineered and recorded our cover version of Iron Maiden's "Remember tomorrow" at his then Soundlab recording facilities. Thoughts goes out to his family and bandmembers from the entire Opeth camp. Words are futile really, so again...our deepest respect and concoleances to his close ones from all of us.

Mikael Åkerfeldt has been confirmed as the vocalist for the first and last Bloodbath gig. This will take place at Germany's famous Wacken open air festival on the 5th of August. The band will perform songs from all three albums including the non-Åkerfeldt death-bomb "Nightmares made flesh" that featured Peter Tägtgren on vocals.

The all star line-up will consist of: Anders Nyström (Katatonia), Jonas Renkse (Katatonia), Dan Swanö (legendary multi musician), Martin Axenrot (Nifelheim, Witchery etc) and Mikael Åkerfeldt. Be there or....well, of course you'll be there!!

Opeth will be entering Fashination street studios on March 15 to record their 8th yet untitled opus. The band are currently in rehearsal mode, which is a rare occasion having recorded the last 4 records without rehearsing. The recording will be overseen by the uprising recording mogul Jens Bogren. As of today no names for production duties have surfaced and it looks like the next record will be a band produced effort. Nothing has been decided regarding who's taking care of the mix either so we'll have to keep you wondering.
