Update from Mikael on his injury

Hi guys! I'm writing from beyond the grave. Seriously, I was not in a car crash and I haven't broken my arm. All that happened is I hit my head in mastodons tour bus as I was getting a new pair of (red) underwear out from my suitcase. Wish the story was more rock and roll, believe me. Anyways I split my head open down to the skullbone and had to be taken to the emergency. They gave me a bunch of shots in the wound, cleaned me up and stapled my head shut with 8 metal staples. Head is sore and if I smile it feels like the wound is gonna burst open again, but I'll be on stage by tomorrow again. I feel extremely disappointed that we couldn't play at the myth in Minneapolis, but paramedics told me I couldn't. We will reschedule the show for our next trip to the USA. So all rumors of me being in a car crash are false. I did crash my head into a car though, well...a bus really. Sorry for disappointing our fans in Minneapolis but I hope you understand. See you next time. Best. Mikael

Opeth has been invited to play the legendary main stage at the famed Gröna Lund amusement park in Stockholm. The show will take place on the 14th of September and will be the final performance before they close down for the Autumn/Winter season. Opeth will be prog/psych/metal rocking out on the same stage where artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Abba, Tina Turner, Elton John, Kiss, Beach boys, Dire Straits, Eric Clapton, The Who and Janis Joplin's delivered some classic performances. Not bad company at all. This will be one of the very biggest achievements for the band to date.

Opeth/Mikael comments: "Tremendous honour for us! Unbelievable. You can't book a stage like this as they are based on being invited to play. I've been there a million times throughout my life, mainly just getting sick in some rollercoaster. Never did I think that my little band would be on that fucking stage. So humbled by this. I rarely get worked up for anything, but I am actually excited about this. I think it will be a magic night. We'll do our best to make it so anyways"

Fredrik joins the Marshall family

Marshall is pleased to announce that Fredrik Akesson of Scandinavian prog-metal legends Opeth has returned to the Marshall family. Fredrik will now be using Marshall’s flagship 100 Watt JVM410 heads and 1960V 4x12” cabs.

His reason:- “Marshall has the bite, sustain and core and much more! No other amps cuts through like a Marshall.” – Fredrik Akesson

Together with Opeth frontman Mikael Akerfeldt’s Vintage Modern powered backline, this return to the black and gold means that every raging riff, experimental melody and face-melting solo on their up-coming “Heritage Hunter” tour will be Marshall driven.

Marshall’s Artist liaison manager, Paul Marshall, stated:-
“It is great to have both Fredrik and Mikael playing Marshall. I was disappointed when Fredrik left Marshall, but understood the reasons and we have always remained friends. It is always pleasing when an artist joins Marshall, but it is very special when we get to welcome a friend back into the family, especially one of Fredrik’s ability, and to see both Fredrik and Mikael playing Marshall – I can hardly wait to go to the first show.”

Opeth have been pushing the boundaries of their genre-spanning music for over two decades. Their current album – Heritage – continues this sonic exploration, fusing together elements of jazz, prog, classical and of course metal to create quite possibly their most accomplished work to date.
