Larry "Rhino" Reinhardt R.I.P

Even if the following "news" are slightly late, Opeth wants to send their thoughts and condolences to the relatives and family of Larry "Rhino" Reinhardt who passed away on January 2, 63 years old. Rhino was one of the founding members of seminal heavy rock band Captain Beyond, who released 3 outstanding records between 1972 and 1977.

Mikael comments: "Well, what the hell!? Seems, like every other update on Opeth.com nowadays is about another sick or fallen hero. Captain Beyond was a highly influential band for Opeth. I have been a fan of theirs for many years now, and count myself lucky that I even got to see Rhino and Bobby (Caldwell, drums) perfrom live once. What a band! All that remains to be said is: Rhino, rest in peace. Your music will continue to inspire people for many years to come"

Mikael Åkerfeldt and legendary Marshall amplifiers have entered into a collaborative relationship. This means that Mikael exclusively will endorse Marshall amplifiers from now on. His model of choice: Vintage Modern.

Says Mikael: ”Well, my first amplifier ever was a 12W Marshall, my second amp was a Marshall 20W, my 3rd amp was a 100W Valvestate head and 4X12 cabinet. The first 2 were stolen, the last one I had to sell to buy food and pay bills. It’s been a long and winding road since, but now I’m back to playing Marshalls and it feels like I’m back home. The Vintage Modern? Well, the name alone speaks volumes. I see Opeth as a modern band with vintage influences and this amp has everything I need. From a warm , clean jazzy tone to the most extreme metal-chug. And everything inbetween.”
